Proof-reading: Shining the Written Words

Literary alchemy appears throughout the history of English literature from Shakespeare to J. K. Rowling. If your literature requires a bit of alchemy, you’ve come to the right place. Traditionally the forge worker was called an alchemist or a smith, so let’s word-smith that writing.

Defining Your Draft

Got a draft piece of work that needs a little checking over?
Want to evoke a bit of life into your vocabulary?
In need of fresh eyes on your copy?
Struggle to spell Armageddon? It’s not the end of the world.

You’re in the right space.

Want a full re-vamp to make your list of ideas a finished page of paragraphs?
If you tell a story using paint, photographs, dance or humming, let me translate your message into words.

I love grammar, I know the difference between your and you’re, and I’d like to save you the trouble of learning such rules.

I’ll be saving you time and stress, while hopefully improving your relationships, money or grades. Whatever the piece aims to achieve.

My Role

I proof-read and I re-write.

If either of those two things aren’t your thing; let me do them for you.

Do you just need one or two things edited? No worries. Let’s talk.

Have a project, workbook, short-story or academic paper that you’re not sure makes sense? Get in touch.

If you hate all writing everywhere and need help every week on 3-4 things, I’d love to get involved.

My current portfolio of proof-reading experience includes psychology BSc lab reports, neuroscience MSc essays, application forms, workbooks, blog posts, CVs and short stories.

I also re-write blog posts, sales pages, personal statements, job application answers, difficult emails, and re-phrase interview answers.

* I can only edit according to the UK English grammatical and spelling rules, but I can proof a piece of American writing for cohesion and ignore the spelling differences.

Why Me

I’m the one who people turned to in first grade to ask how words were spelled. I’m the person who copy-edited my housemate’s application form and my friend’s dissertation.

“Rose should be your first choice for proof-reading and editing as her ability to spot a misspelled word or rogue comma is next to none – she has a powerful sense of awareness when proofreading, and I have been using her services for many years.”
Ciarán Hodgers, National Winner of the Sean Dunne Young Writers Award 2010

“Even though I pride myself on my spelling, without Rose’s proof-reading my university assignments would be one big mess of inappropriate grammar. No matter how many times you read over your work, sometimes you just need somebody else to notice an error. Rose is my somebody else.”
Sorcha O’Dowd, Psychology Undergraduate and Aspiring Novelist

My Qualifications

I have a BSc, got a first in my MSc dissertation, and 98 / 105 marks in my A level English Language exam. I’ve been published in 4 poetry anthologies and I’m writing my sixth novel draft.

However, the most important skill I have*, as I think you’ll agree is my incredible skill for calling out repetition, deviation and hesitation in ‘Just A Minute’, and often win the game for my team.

See? Mad Skills.

The Details

So, how does this all work? Let me know your budget and what you’d like, and I’ll let you know what I can do. If you have a limited amount to spend, but need your website sales pages proof-read; get in touch. I don’t charge per word, preferring to take into account what you can afford, your specific needs and how much time it will take me.

Sound good to you? Send me an email using the links below and let me know how I can help you. I’ll also give brief feedback on how the piece could be edited, and suggest alternative wording if you request it, as part of the service.

If you’d like to use my editing and re-writing skills, Get In Touch.

If you’d like to request my proof-reading skills, Let’s Talk.
